Malawi, the “Warm Heart of Africa”
Located in Southeast Africa, nestled between Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia, Malawi is a landlocked country - but borders one of the world’s largest freshwater lakes, aptly named Lake Malawi: an important water ecosystem hosting incredible biodiversity.
The people of Malawi are renowned for their friendliness and hospitality, warmly welcoming visitors with open arms. This spirit of warmth and kindness is why Malawi has earned its well-deserved reputation as the Warm Heart of Africa.
Chichewa is one of the primary languages spoken in Malawi, along with Yao (in the southern region) and Tumbuka (north). English is also spoken by many, as it is the language of instruction in schools beginning in late primary school. I will be learning and speaking Chichewa during my service!
